BJD WINS PATKURA ASSEMBLY CONSTITUENCY

Written by

Bureau,Odishabarta

Kendrapara,24/07/19: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won the prestige battle and emerged victorious in the by-election to the Patkura assembly constituency in Kendrapara district.

The Returning officer announced the by-poll results after completion of the 17 rounds of vote counting. BJD’s Sabitri Agarwalla defeated BJP candidate Bijoy Mohapatra by 17,655 votes.

While Agarwalla garnered 95,162 votes, Mohapatra received 77,507 votes and Congress candidate Jayanta Kumar Mohanty got mere 2090 votes.

With this, Bijoy Mohapatra’s hope to become a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly hit the roadblock once again. He had unsuccessfully contested assembly polls from Patkura and Mahakalapada constituencies in 2009 and 2014 respectively as a BJP candidate.

On the other hand, Patkura assembly once again embraced BJD. The ruling party has been testing consecutive success from the seat since 2004.

Meanwhile, BJD supporters started celebrations following the victory by distributing sweets and bursting crackers.

KARNATAKA POLITICAL DRAMA IS OVER IN KARNATAKA

Written by

Report;Bureau,Odishabarta

New delhi,24/07/19:Karnataka political drama over but permanent remedial measures necessary to prevent immoral politics and to prevent unstable governments and hung assemblies

After week-long drama by deferring trust-vote by outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister, BJP is set to form a new government in the state with 10 Congress and 3 JD(S) MLAs having resigned from membership of the state-assembly evidently to pave way for fall of Kumaraswamy government which always ruled on ventilator with Chief Minister at times publicly crying on his helplessness to run government according to his will. Evidently present system of electing Speaker helped Congress-JD(S) alliance make a Speaker who helped Kumaraswamy government deferring trust-vote for so long despite even Supreme Court seized with the issue.

Any MP or MLA resigning mid-term must not be allowed to contest any election for next six years as an effective check for unnecessary burden of mid-term elections on public-exchequers for unholy politics. Income Tax authorities should probe such usual cases of MLAs stay for long in costly luxurious hotels and resorts in case of unstable governments and hung assemblies.

Chief Minister (or Prime Minister) should be simultaneously elected with Speaker and Deputy Speaker by secret and compulsory votes through EVMs equipped with VVPAT on nominations signed by at least 34-percent members with abstaining members losing right to vote in the House though retaining its membership. Such elected incumbents may be removed through same process but with compulsion to name alternate leader in the same motion.

Such system alone can pave way for simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and state-assemblies because it will eliminate phenomenon of unstable governments and hung assemblies.
