Patna,16/06/19: The death toll due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) has risen to 80 in Muzaffarpur district in Bihar, latest reports said on Sunday. 

The Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has reached Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur to take stock of the situation. The minister has reviewed public health measures to check the spread of AES. 

He has assured that all measures are being taken to tackle the disease. The Centre was constantly monitoring the situation, the minister added.

Reports said doctors claimed that the deaths are caused due to the combined effect of AES and severe heat in the state. 

Meanwhile, as many as 25 people have died due to severe heat wave in the state.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced  Rs 4 lakh each to families of those who have died due to the disease. 

Earlier, Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey said the authorities were doing the best to contain the spread of the disease.
