Bhubaneswar,04/04/19:A day after resigning from the Congress party, senior leader Bibhu Prasad Tarai joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Thursday.
Tarai joined the saffron party in the presence of BJP National vice-president Baijayant Panda, senior leader Biswabhushan Harichandan and other party leaders at BJP’s state headquarters here.
Expressing displeasure over the distribution of tickets by Odisha Congress for the upcoming polls, Tarai had resigned from the primary membership of Congress in a letter addressed to OPCC Chief Niranjan Patnaik on Wednesday evening.
While Tarai wanted to fight from Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha seat, the party fielded him from Tirtol Assembly segment. Following this, the senior leader deserted the Congress and joined the BJP today.
Notably, Bibhu Prasad Tarai had won the Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha seat on a CPI ticket backed by BJD in 2009. He was later expelled from the party over alleged anti-party activities following which he had joined the Congress ahead of the 2014 general elections.
Rourkela,04/04/19:Senior leader Dilip Ray today hinted at campaigning for BJP’s Patkura Assembly seat candidate Bijoy Mohapatra, who rejoined the saffron party after four months of his resignation.
“He (Bijoy Mohapatra) is my friend and I will do what is required,” Ray told media persons while holding talks with his supporters on the future course of his political action at Rourkela today.
The veteran leader also urged the voters to not give votes to those who have failed in keeping their promises in an obvious reference to the BJP’s failures in keeping its promises of a second bridge over Brahmani river and transformation of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) into a super-specialty hospital.
Ray also cleared the air over his joining in any political party and said that even though he will not embrace any party, but would support those who work for the development of Rourkela.
On November 30, 2018, both Dilip Ray and Bijoy Mohapatra had resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party protesting over the inordinate delay in fulfillment of the two aforesaid long-standing demands of Rourkela and lack of job opportunities for local youths in Paradip.
On March 28, Mohapatra made a homecoming and joined the BJP after several negotiations with his supporters and other BJP leaders. However, Ray opted to stay away from party politics and work for the interest of the people.

Bhawanipatna,(Kalahandi),02/04/19:Upping the ante against the Congress and the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Opposition during an election rally in Odisha's Kalanhandi district Tuesday of deceiving the poor and treating them as "vote-bank".
Addressing an election rally at Bhawanipatna in Odisha's Kalahandi, Modi highlighted the "positive changes" brought by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
"I want to ask the eight lakh poor families in Odisha who got houses. Who gave them this? Twenty-four lakh people in Odisha got free electricity connection. Who removed this darkness? Odisha's 40 lakh women got free LPG connection. Who gave them this? One crore and 40 lakh people in Odisha got bank accounts opened. Who did this? No Modi did not do this. Your one vote did all this," the prime minister said.
Modi also claimed that his government has successfully installed sanitation facilities for the poor and facilitated banking schemes.
"All these works have been done by your vote, not by Modi, I am just a sevak. Your vote has brought a new progress in India," Modi said.
Further, taking a jibe at the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led government, Modi said the development in Odisha could have been accelerated had there been a BJP government.
"Parties like Congress and BJD conspired to keep the poor of the country poor, they deceived the poor. They treated them as vote-banks; and because of this don’t know how many Dana Manjhis don't even get ambulance," the prime minister said.
Modi urged voters in Odisha to "repeat history" which was created by Uttar Pradesh in 2017 and Tripura in 2018.
"I have worked for you despite no cooperation of state government, this watchman has taken advantage of Centre's schemes to help Odiyas. I urge Odiyas to vote for BJP, repeat history created by Uttar Pradesh in 2017 and Tripura in 2018," Modi said.
Parlakhemundi (Gajapati),01/04/19: Hitting out at Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Government frontally, the BJP President Amit Shah on Monday exhorted voters to uproot the ‘brazenly corrupt’ BJD government and bring BJP government in the State.
After paying respects to Odisha’s legendary figures on Utkala Dibasa during his visit to the State, Shah fired first salvo at CM Patnaik. “Odisha was first State constituted on linguistic basis. Even after 19 years rule, Patnaik is unable to speak Odia extempore,” taunted Shah. In same vein, Shah asked the crowd whom do you wish to see as Odisha CM – the one who knows Odia or an English speaking CM.
The BJP President then hauled up BJD government for its inability to provide jobs to youths after a long stint of 19 years. “As many as 30,000 Odias live in Surat. They vote for BJP there. Gujarat is happy for their contribution. But moot question is why youths have to travel to such far off places for work,” reasoned Shah.
He criticised the State Government for straddling at the bottom nationally in provisioning safe drinking water to all houses in Odisha. He pulled no punches while slamming the BJD government for failing to provide doctors in health centres. BJP President criticised the BJD government for not completing the pending Mahendratanaya and Vamsadhara irrigation projects. “Farmers don’t get adequate water for their crops here,” he lamented and asked the gathering to not repeat the mistake and instead give BJP a chance to serve Odisha.
Raking up the emotional Ratna Bhandar flip-flop, Shah took a jibe at Patnaik for the colossal mismanagement. “Naveen babu is thinking its mere money matters; whereas Ratna Bhandar is a sign of prosperity and progress of Odisha,” he mocked.
Making a comparison, Shah claimed Modi-led NDA govt has devolved Rs 5.65 lakh crore to Odisha in last 5-years against mere Rs 80, 000 crore by Congress-led UPA. “Modi government has completed four major rail projects in Odisha in last 5-years,” he said and slammed Naveen govt for not giving land rights to tribal people.
Likening the BJD government to a burnt transformer, Shah gave a clarion call at Umerkote to uproot the government. He raked up the Citizenship Amendment Bill that grants equal rights to Hindu/Sikh refugees. Eying sizeable Bengali community here, Shah recalled how BJD, Congress together blocked the passage of the bill.
National security and Balakote seemed top on BJP poll agenda, when Shah asked the crowd do you want terrorists be left unpunished? He said Narendra Modi government is only government that could give effective response. When Modi government hit terror camps, Congress party is speaking voice of Pakistan, thundered Shah.
In a big hint, Shah at the election meeting said Odisha needs a young Chief Minister. This assumes significance when BJP is yet to name its CM candidate for the upcoming 2019 elections. Political observers read it BJP’s strategy to rule out seniors from CM race.
