Bhubaneswar,19/10/19:The high-voltage campaign for by-poll in Bijepur Assembly constituency in Odisha’s Bargarh district, for which voting is to be done on October 21, will end on Saturday evening.
Reportedly, polling officials deployed at Padmapur RMC ground will be provided with VVPAT and EVMs today.
Campaigning for the Bijepur Assembly by-election in Odisha reached its peak on Thursday with Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik himself leading the party’s bandwagon on a two-day visit to the constituency. Patnaik canvassed for party candidate Rita Sahu.
The BJP also accelerated the pace of its campaign with party heavyweights addressing several meetings across the constituency.
While Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has already campaigned, state BJP president Basant Panda, senior leaders KV Singh Deo and Suresh Pujari campaigned for party candidate Sanat Gartia.
On the other hand, the Congress camp appears to be in a demoralising position even though the party leaders are canvassing in the seat for Dillip Panda.
This election, slated for October 21, is the third for Bijepur constituency in 20 months. Patnaik, who has been chief minister of Odisha for 19 years in a row, had won this seat along with Hinjili in Ganjam district in the April-May simultaneous polls. He chose to retain Hinjili, his traditional seat that has elected him five times so far, and vacated the Bijepur seat.
