ODISHA CEO HOLDS ALL-PARTY MEETING Featured

Report;Bureau,Odishabarta

Bhubaneswar,12/03/19: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha, Surendra Kumar on Tuesday held an all-party meeting for the ensuing Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

During the meeting which was attended by the representatives of various political parties, Kumar briefed about the new guidelines to be followed during the polls.

He said several new guidelines have been introduced this year. Unlike earlier, candidates contesting the elections this year will have to reveal their income tax returns of the last five years.

Besides, candidates will have to provide details of their Permanent Account Number (PAN) and publish details of their criminal records or cases registered against them through print and electronic media for a minimum of three times, informed the Chief Electoral Officer.

Moreover, the CEO discussed poll expenses during the meeting. While the poll expenses limits of political parties have not been fixed yet, the expenditure limits of candidates have been fixed, he said.

Candidates contesting Lok Sabha seat can spend a maximum of Rs 70 lakh during the process of elections, while the expense limit is Rs 28 lakh for candidates contesting assembly seat, Kumar said.

He said the records of candidates’ poll expenses will be kept with the CEO. The CEO further informed that he would recommend for revision in the voting timing in the Maoist-infested areas in the state.
