Bhubaneswar,21/09/19: IIT,Bhubaneswar celebrated its 8th Annual Convocation on Saturday in the Community Centre of the Institute at Argul, Jatni. The Chief Guest for the Convocation was ISRO Chairman K. Sivan. 

Prof. R.V. Raja Kumar, Director, IIT Bhubaneswar presided over the function. Also present were the Members of Board of Governors, Senate Member, Deans, Heads of Schools, faculty, staff members of IIT Bhubaneswar and esteemed guests. The Convocation began with a majestic and grand academic procession followed by the National Song sung by the students of the Institute. 

ISRO Chairman K. Sivan attended the event as the Chief Guest and addressed the gathering. He congratulated the fresh graduates on their success. He also recognised the Institute’s efforts in bringing new approaches to learning by inculcating the spirit of innovation as a fundamental approach to teaching. 

IIT Bhubaneswar Director Prof. R.V Raja Kumar congratulated the Gold Medal winners for their outstanding success and wished them best of luck for their future ahead. He conferred the degrees to 32 PhD, 105 M.Tech, 67 M.Sc and 152 B.Tech students. He also presented a detailed report which underlined the various efforts and achievements of IIT Bhubaneswar on multiple fronts including imparting high-quality technical education but also towards addressing a very large range of societal needs through the application of Science & Technology. 

He was extremely happy to share that the Institute tripled its placements with one and half times rise in average salary. He also emphasised on raising the standards on all fronts including inter nationalisation of academics programmes, international collaborations on the research of high industrial & societal relevance, doubling of PhD Scholar’s intake, massive plantations and rapid strides made in research and developmental activities of the Institute over last one year. 

The President of India Gold Medal has been awarded to Shrohan Mohapatra of the Computer Science and Engineering for best academic performance among the entire outgoing B. Tech. batch of students. 

The Director’s Gold Medal has been awarded to Rahul Das of the School of Infrastructure for best academic performance among the entire outgoing M.Tech. batch of students. 

The Director’s Gold Medal has been awarded to Anubhav Nath of the School of Basic Sciences for best academic performance among the entire outgoing M. Sc. batch of students. 

For the best academic performance in the respective Schools, the Institute Silver Medals have been awarded to Shrohan Mohapatra, Gonuguntla Neeharika, Indira Singh Dhakar, Gaurav Vishal and Chaudhari Hrishikesh Umesh among the outgoing B. Tech. batch of students. 

For the best academic performance in the respective Schools, the Institute Silver Medals have been awarded to Rahul Das, Abhishek Parida, Srija Mukherjee, Ananta Dutta, P Abhishek and Spandan Dey among the outgoing M. Tech. batch of students.

Berhampur,22/09/19:The Sixth Reunion of the Corps of Army Air Defence was celebrated on 20 and 21 Sep 2019 at Army AD College, Gopalpur on Sea near Brahmapur in Odisha. 

The Corps of Army Air Defence is a relatively young arm. However in a short span of twenty five years since its bifurcation from the Regiment of Artillery, the Army Air Defence has already created a legacy for itself within the Indian Army. As sentinels of the skies, the Army Air Defence has proved its mettle in war, internal security duties and during natural calamities. 

The role of Army Air Defence in preserving strategic assets & key assets in the Tactical Battle Area of the nation assumes great significance in view of the emerging air threat. Army Air Defence will play a defining role in future conflicts and has thus taken a lead in induction of technologically sophisticated weapons and equipment besides selective upgradation of the existing equipment. 

The exploits of Army Air Defence warriors have earned the Corps numerous Gallantry & Distinguished Services awards incl two Ashoka Chakras, two Kirti Chakras, 20 Vir Chakras, nine Shaurya Chakras, 112 Sena Medals, one Medal of British Empire, seven India Distinguished Service Medal, two order of British Empire, 10 PVSMs, 22 AVSMs, and 44 VSMs in various operations including the 1947 Internal Disturbance, 1965 & 71 Indo-Pak Wars, besides operations in J & K, North Eastern states and the Siachin Glacier. In addition, four Army Air Defence units have been awarded the coveted Honour Titles in the 1971 War. 

The sixth Army Air Defence Reunion provided a platform for interaction among the serving and retired Army Air Defence gunners to renew their ties, pay tributes to their martyred comrades and to honour their Veer Naries. The celebrations included Wreath Laying at the War Memorial, a specially convened Sainik Sammelan for all ranks including veterans, felicitation of gallantry award winners and Veer Naris, display of transformation of Army Air Defence equipment profile, as also the traditional military get-together over a Barakhana. A spectacular display of Army Air Defence history and heritage, Light and Sound Show at Army Air Defence Museum & Army Air Defence Band symphony were also organised to commemorate this occasion.

Rayagada,21/09/19:Town police Rayagada have busted a cricket betting racket with the arrest of five persons including the kingpin during a raid at Laxminayaran street in the town. 

IIC,Nihar Ranjan Pradhan to  scribe.we have arrested the  persons who directly involved with betting were  identified as K. Surya Rao, Sagar Sahu, Jyotiranjan Palei, Satyabrata Pradhan and P Kishore Rao, including the kingpin of the betting racket. 

Acting on a tip-off, the Rayagada Town police team led by IIC, conducted a raid at a house in Laxminayaran street and apprehended the five persons red-handed. Besides, police have also seized Rs Rs 3.87 lakh cash, five mobile phones, three motorcycles from the possession of the accused persons. 

A case has been registered and the accused persons booked under relevant Sections of the IPC, sources in the police informed. 

“We became success to arrest five persons including the kingpin of this racket was being operated from one the house of arrested accused, K. Surya Rao. Its very surprising mainly, all are the college students were involved in this racket. They were using Google Pay and PhonePe for transferring money”, said Mr Pradhan.
