Koraput,31/08/19:The Central University of Odisha which was established by an Act of Parliament under the Central Universities Act, 2009 (No. 3C of 2009) celebrated its 11th Foundation Day Programme at its main campus situated in Sunabeda on 29th August, 2019.
The celebration began by unfurling of the University Flag by the Vice Chancellor I/c. Prof. Sharat Kumar Palita in the presence of Chief Guest, Prof. Sumat P. Agarwal; Prof Asit Kumar Das, Registrar, Central University of Odisha, faculty members, non-teaching staff, students and other guests and dignitaries of the University.
The 11th Foundation Day address was delivered by Prof. Sumat P. Agarwal, Principal & Professor Ramanujan College, University of Delhi; Director, Teaching Learning Centre, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT), MHRD & Director, National Resource Centre (NRC), MHRD, Ramanujan College. In his address Prof. Agarwal highlighted on four key areas for overall development of education in India. The first area is teaching and learning. The modern day learners have new expectations from the system of education and the teacher has to address those needs in an innovative way. The second aspect was Research & Innovation. Research which will bring benefit to the people and the society is to be encouraged and a more humane approach needs to be developed. He said, “If there are problems, then there is bound to be solutions. Problems should not scare us, rather they should encourage us to find as many solutions as possible.” The third key aspect was academic administration and the fourth being general administration.
The Inaugural address was delivered by the Prof Sharat Kumar Palita, Vice-Chancellor I/c. of the University. The Vice-Chancellor I/c. highlighted the fact that the University has made tremendous progress in the last ten years and especially in recent months.Prof. Palita also emphasized on the research work that is being carried out in CUO as one of its major strengths. He also laidout future plans for development of CUO including building of Academic blocks, staff quarters in the pipeline. He emphasized on the need for continuing support from all stakeholders of the University so that the University can reach new heights. He urged all stakeholders to contribute towards nation building by way of social commitments, i.e. working for the upliftment of people in the surroundings.
The formal programme of the foundation day began with a welcome address by Prof. Asit Kumar Das, Registrar, Central University of Odisha. In his address, Prof. Das paid glowing praises to the contribution of all the people associated with the University who in these ten years have shown extreme devotion and commitment for the upliftment of this University. He also acknowledged the fact there are many grey areas which needs to be addressed and are a cause for concern in the overall development of the University.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Ramendra Padhi and the programme was compared by Dr. Sourav Gupta. The Programme saw large participation from students, faculty, non-teaching staff and intelligentsia of Koraput and adjoining areas.
