ROURKELA,20/01/19:One of the premier institute of India, National Institute of Technology (NIT) has organized its 16th Convocation which was participated by the business tycoon of India Kumar Mangalam Birla, Head of Aditya Birla Group. His presence in the event has inspired many young engineers to carry a good spirit to build their career as entrepreneur and also as a good employee. After the inauguration, Kumar Mangalam Birla has paid flower tribute to the first Principal of this institute, late. Prof. Bhubaneswar Behera. Then in his speech to a large audience in the hall he said, Don’t look at yourself as just another engineering graduate but look at yourself a s a change of force. He said when I llok at you I see a force who is unmatched. He said, people often say disruption is new normal, I would say no normal is the new normal. What is equally important is giving back to individuals, to community, to institution, to society at large. This year the number of graduate is 1540 which surpasses the last year figure of 120. NIT has produced 9998 engineers, scientist, masters, and graduates I addition to 613 PhDs. This year 11 graduates have received Gold Medal. Chinni Rewant of the department of Mechanical engineering received the Best Graduate awards of the 2018 batch, Madan Raj C from Safety Engineering Specialization under the department of Chemical engineering got the Best Post Graduate in M.Tech programme. Miss Ankita Mohanty of the School of Management for Best MBA, Miss Trisha Kundu of the Department of Life Science being aarded for the best among the M.Sc and M.A Students. Mr.Bharat A B of Department fo Chemistry was awarded as the topper in the Integrated M.Sc programme and ,Miss Rajrani Patra from Transportation Engineering Specialization under the Department of civil engineering got the award of best Post graduate in the B.Tech and M.Tech Dual Degree Programme. Few old alumni were also awarded for their professional and social achievements and they are Dr. Om Agrawal, Dr.Swathi Mohanty, Soma Mandal and Sanajay Kumar Mohanty. These awards were presented by Dr. Santrupt Mishra of NIT. Dr.Swathi Mohanty (1983 Batch, B.Sc (Engg) who is now working as Chief Scientist at CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar, India and has been made significant contribution in the area of process modeling, stimulation, optimization and control. Ms.Soma Mandal (1984 Batch B.E in Electrical Engineering) presently working as a Member of the Board of Directors of NALCO and SAIL has made significant contribution to corporate governance, business planning, domestic and international sale and marketing , logistic and materials management in the metals and minerals industries. Dr. Om Agrawal (1986 Batch B.Sc (Engg) in Electrical Engineering is now working with AMD, Vantis and Lattice Semiconductor, USA and has been instrumental in researching and designing in the semiconductor industries and Sanjay Moahnty (1980 BATCH B.Sc (Engg) in Electrical Engineering is a key entrepreneur and and have created many job opportunities and doing scientific aquaculture in the state of Odisha. This convocation was attended by many professors, staffs and students of the institute.
