ROURKELA:Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Rourkela is a steel manufacturer giant and has been doing well in its core trade. Besides this, RSP has also helped many underprivileged students financially to pursue primary education and higher education in Sundergarh district, mostly targeting tribal students in the periphery and the Resettlement colonies. Recently RSP has identified few students who are financially weak and been paid scholarship among many others who have been taking scholarship for last 2-3 years. Among the students, Gyandeep Mundary of Jhirpani has taken his 5th installment of Rs.30,000 at a function organized by CSR department, who is a NIT student . He has already taken Rs.1.5 lakh for his higher education. Similarly, Ashrita Kindo of Rajgangpur who is pursuing her B.E at Vivekananda Institute of Technology in Bhubaneswar took the scholarship and appraised the effort made by RSP. It is worth mentioning that every year RSP identifies 20 SC/ST students who are economically backward from Sundergarh district pursuing Engineering .Medical, Agriculture and Management and pay them scholarship of Rs.60,000 for Post-Graduation courses of 2 years and Rs.1.5 lakhs for graduation courses of 5 year duration. Besides this, RSP has also made scholarship scheme for 200 underprivileged students reading from class 1-12. Students pursuing Higher Secondary and Secondary education receive Rs.1000/ per month each while students pursuing Primary education get a monthly scholarship of Rs.900/-each. The selection of these students for scholarship is done by the office of the ADM, Rourkela. In addition to this, tribal students from peripheral areas have been sponsored by RSP for free education at kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar. This is not all, financial assistance was also provided to class X passed out students of Deepika Ispat Sikshya Sadan to pursue ITI and +2 course in different educational institutes. These are gem of activities done by RSP and for this cause many parents and students who have received scholarship are grateful and thank RSP for the endeavour.
