Berahampur,10/10/19:The State Government has taken an ‘in-principle’ decision to establish Police Commissionerate system in Berhampur informed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during his 2014 General Election campaign.
Setting up of a Commissionerate policing system people of Berhampur has boost with much enthusiasms .
District police also seriously started their ground work like identification of required land for construction of its headquarters and staff quarters.
During the period Berhampur police have submitted their proposal to the Odisha Government for establishment of the proposed headquarters of the Commissionerate of Police near the Income Tax office (Ayakar Bhavan) at Ambapua in the city. For this purpose, a patch of land measuring 2.5 acres has been identified. Similarly, another suitable land measuring 2.5 acre have also been identified for construction of staff quarters,
Meanwhile, the Police have submitted several alternative proposals to Government for effective functioning of the Commissionerate of Police in the city like the Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the whole Commissionerate area would be divided into five zones headed by five Assistant Commissioner of Polices (ACP). Apart from that three IPS officers would be appointed for the post in the office of Commissioner of Police along with two DCPs (Territorial and Headquarters). Under each ACP, separate cells like Crime, Human Trafficking and HRPC would function.
Notably, prior to 2014 General Election on dated.03/03/14 Ex-Superintendent of Police hold a press meet at Dist police Head Quarter and briefed very soon Berhampur launching with commissionerate of Police. Even in the press meet we have received the staff structural chart.
According to the new proposal, three police stations at Jarada, Digapahandi and K Nuagaon under the Berhampur police district might function under the Ganjam police district, while three police stations at Chhatrapur, Chamakhandi and Arjipalli under the Ganjam police would be included in the proposed Commissionerate Police system. Besides the exchange, other eleven police stations of the Brahmapur police district would come under the new system. told by SP.
On 19/02/18 DGP Mr (Dr)RP Sharma during his visit to Berhampur assured Berhampur people to strengthen the police in the city to gain more confidence of the public. But we are waiting for the funds from Government and final approval. We need sufficient infrastructure, Staff strength, Vehicles etc..
