Bhubaneswar,21/06/19:Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday announced the names of the party candidates for the by-elections to Rajya Sabha seats in Odisha. 

Amar Patnaik, Head of IT Wing of BJD and Sasmit Patra, Spokesperson and Secretary (Minority Affairs) would be the BJD’s candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections, Patnaik said. 

He also informed that as per discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah the BJD would support the candidature of Ashwani Vaishnav. 

Ashwani Vaishnav was an IAS Officer and Private Secretary to former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee and has also worked in Odisha. 

The by-elections to three Rajya Sabha seats in Odisha will be held on July 5. The seats were lying vacant after the resignation of the incumbent members who were fielded in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha and assembly elections.

The last day for filing nominations is June 25 and the counting of votes will be done on July 5 at 5 pm, an hour after polling ends. 

The by-poll process has to be completed before July 9, the Election Commission had said in a release.

Bhubaneswar,21/06/19:The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday suspended three party workers in connection with the wrapping of the coffin of martyr Ajit Sahoo with the party flag. 

The party supporters who were placed under suspension are Binod Majhi, Santosh Sahu and Gobardhan Das of Cuttack district. 

“Biju Janata Dal has enquired into the incident of placing the party flag on body of martyr Ajit Sahoo. On the basis of this, Binod Kumar Majhi, Santosh Kumar Sahu and Gobardhan Das of Cuttack district have been placed under suspension from the party,” party general secretary Bijaya Kumar Nayak said. 

“Biju Janata Dal has enormous respect towards the martyrs. The matter that has come to our notice is extremely unfortunate and we strongly condemn it. The party will find out who is responsible for this and take stringent action against them. We again strongly condemn this extremely unfortunate incident,” said BJD Spokesperson Dr.Sasmit Patra.

Bhubaneswar,21/06/19:The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry today approved an increase of 100 MBBS seats under Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota in several medical college and hospitals in Odisha.

Earlier, the Odisha government had decided to implement 10% EWS quota in medical institutions from this academic session.

Following the increase, the seat capacity at Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital in Baripada will be 125, up from existing 100 seats. Similarly, the intake at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput has also gone up to 125 from 100 seats.

Fifty additional MBBS seats have been approved for Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. With this, the total intake of the college has gone up to 200 against existing 150 seats.

As SCB Medical College & Hospital, Cuttack and MKCG in Berhampur are already having 250 seats each; the intakes cannot be increased further as per Medical Council of India (MCI) norms, informed sources.

Gajapati,21/06/19:A man allegedly hacked his elder brother to death over property dispute at Chintapalli village under Gosani block of Odisha’s Gajapati district.

Accused Prabhakar Behera, who committed the crime in an inebriated state, absconded after the incident. Police have started investigation into the matter by questioning his father.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was drunk. He used to thrash his family members alleging that he didn’t get any share of the parental property. This morning, he hacked his brother Sundar Behera to death with an axe in an inebriated state. We have formed two teams to nab the accused,” a police official said.

Talcher,21/06/19:NTPC Talcher Kaniha celebrated 5th International Yoga Day today with theme “Yoga for Heart”. To celebrate the day in a befitting manner, a fitness walk was organised.The walk was flagged off by Shri Ramesh Babu V Chief General Manager (CGM),NTPC Kaniha in presence of Smt Vani V ,President ,Tanvi Sangam & senior officials, employees , family members ,CISF senior officials & members, school principals , teachers & children.

During fitness walk rally, school children displayed placards on for creating awareness on yoga and its benefit for healthy body & mind .The fitness walk was followed by mass yoga demonstration. Yoga tutor Vyas Mishra & Tarun Kumar Barik demonstrated yoga postures for healthy living to the participants.

Earlier during the program, Shri P K Sahu,DGM(HR)welcomed the participants and briefed about the various programs to be organised on International Yoga Day celebration. A lecture on “Yoga a way life” and cultural program on yoga is also planned to celebrate the day. Poster completion and yoga completion for children ,employees ans spouses was organised. 

Participants took part in the yoga demonstration program in large numbers to the make the event a success. Banners and posters were displayed in NTPC Kaniha Plant and Township campus to popularize yoga and its benefits.

Koraput,21/06/19:Under the auspices of the MHRD and the UGC all the central higher education institutions of the country are celebrating the 5th International Day of Yoga today. The UN General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga following a proposal by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narenda Modi during his speech at the UNGA. 

The Central University of Orissa celebrated 5th International Day of Yoga in a befitting manner at Theater Hall in its Guest House at Sunabeda on 21 June 2019. Prof. Sharat Kumar Palita, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor I/c. conveyed greeting to the University community for celebrating International Day of Yoga-2019 in his presidential address at the inaugural programme. He appealed the University community to include Yoga as an integral part of their daily routine for a healthy and prosperous life. Prof. Asit Kumar Das, Registrar, CUO delivered the welcome address. Dr. Amulya Ranjan Mohapatra, Founder of Ramakrishna Mission, Koraput delivered a special lecture on life and Yoga on this occasion. On this occasion a Yoga demonstration programme was organized. Shri Dusmanta Parida and Srhi Rajib Kumara Sahu, ardent Yoga experts associated with Art of Leaving, Korpaut attended the programme as the resources persons. 

Prof. Palita outlined the historical aspect of Yoga by citing the name of Patanjali, Ramakrishna Parmahansa and Swami Vivekananda. He said “now days the Yoga is so popular in many of the western country. Yoga is the form of physical and mental exercises which brings peace in mind and body. Yoga is the symbol of the cultural heritage of India. We should accept Yoga as the way of life”. He put light on the historic declaration of UN to celebrate 21st June as International Day of Yoga. 

The programme started with the welcome address by Prof. Asit Kumar Das, Registrar of the CUO. He said “Yoga means addition. It is the way of connection between body and soul and our soul and supreme soul. Yoga is the best way to control stress and to lead a calm, healthy and happy life. 

Dr. Amulya Ranjan Mohapatra, founder of the Rama Krishna Mission of Koraput and notable educationist, delivered a lecture on “Life and Yoga”. He highlighted the benefits of Yoga for a healthy and prosperous life. He said Yoga is also a medicine for different diseases. Shri Dusmanta Parida and Shri Rajib Kumara Sahu demonstrated various Yoga asanas as per the guidelines of Common Yoga Protocol. They demonstrated some simple ‘asanas’ like some simple Bhramari Pranayam, Dyana, Sitali Pranayam, Kapala Bhati, Nadisodhan, Sabasana, Pawan Muktasan, Ardha Halasana, Uttana Padasana, Setu Bandhasana, Salabhasana, Bhrujangasana, Makarasana, Bakrasana, Uttana Mandukasana, Sasakasana, Ustrasana, Ardha Ustrasana, Bajrasana, Bhadrasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Tadasana and different movement of body like knee movement, shoulder movement and various benefits associated with them. 

Dr. Phagunath Bhoi, Public Relations Officer coordinated the programme and extended the vote of thanks.  All the staff and students of the University were present in large number on the yoga session.

Angul,21/06/19:The employees and their family members of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) celebrated the Fifth International Day of Yoga at Jindal Nagar today, under the guidance of Yoga Guru Swami Satyabindu Saraswati. More than 200 people from Jindal Nagar and adjoining areas participated in this event.

Participating in this programme, Executive Director Maintenance of JSPL’s Angul unit Mr. Suresh Kumar advised everyone to make yoga as a part of their routine life to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Addressing the gathering, Brigadier K. K. Chopra, Advisor- Security & Head-Admin, shared his experience of Yoga for a healthy life and distributed trophies to the regular practitioners. 

Swami Satyabindu Saraswati, appreciated the efforts of JSPL’s Chairman Mr. Naveen Jindal for integrating  Yoga in his industrial work culture and advised every employee to attend Yoga class for a stress free and healthy life. He conducts yoga classes every day at a special Yoga Hall in Jindal Nagar. 

Yoga Guru Swami Satyabindu Saraswati, supported by the JSPL Foundation is also propagating Yoga through training camps at various schools in the locality. 

Students and staff members of O.P. Jindal School also observed the day with a special Yoga sessions held under the guidance of school teachers Mrs. Swati Pandey & Mr. D.S. Shailly. Similarly, students and staff members of DAV Savitri Jindal High School at Badamahitala R&R colony of JSPL observed the day under the direct supervision of Mr. Siba Prasad Pani and Mr. Sanjay Kumar Pradhan of Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Angul.

Rayagada,21/06/19: “International day of Yoga” was celebrated in a grand way at 4th Battalion CRPF Headquarters, Rayagada during early morning as per Common Yoga protocol provided by Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India.

A fete having all facilities was instituted. Shri S.D. Pandey, DIG Sambalpur (Tac Hqr Rayagada) graced the occasion in the presence of Shri Y.K. Rajput, Commandant-04 Bn CRPF with Sh. S. K. Thakur Second-In-Command, Smt. Mitu Roy, Second-In-Command, Sh. Ashok Kumar P.M., Dy.Comdt, Sh. G.C. Swain, Asst. Comdt and Sh Pankaj Kumar Staff Officer (Tac Hqr Rayagada) and jawans of the 4th Battalion of CRPF. It boosted the morale of this para military force.

Citizens and school students of Sri Swamy Vivekananda Vidya Mandir & Prasad Techno School Rayagada also enthusiastically participated in International day of Yoga at 4th Bn, CRPF campus.

Shri.Pandey & Sh Y.K. Rajput delivered a valuable speech about the importance of the Yoga and its practical benefits to our health on daily routine life and its impact upon entire environment. They gave a message to the society that CRPF is here not only to maintain peace & tranquillity and brotherhood but also to promote such events in true spirit.

Yoga day was also celebrated in a lucid way in the Jupiter International School, Barijhola where Sri Gobinda Rath, Director and Principal facilitated the process of yoga among students, teachers and supporting staff.
