Bhubaneswar,24/04/19:The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and four-time Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who has always dismissed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s claim of forming Government in Odisha, today retorted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement mentioning that Naveen Babu’s time is up.
Speaking at an election rally in Basta area here, Patnaik said he want to have Modi as a ‘guest’ in his swearing-in ceremony post declaration of election results.
“The PM, during his election rally yesterday, had stated that he would visit Odisha again after dislodging BJD Government. However, with the blessings of people here, BJD has already secured majority in the Assembly after the third phase polls,” said the septuagenarian leader.
“I humbly invite him (Modi) to attend the oath-taking ceremony of BJD Government as a guest,” Patnaik stressed.
Modi, while addressing a public meeting in Kendrapara yesterday, had launched a direct attack on Naveen for the first time stating that Naveen Babu’s time is up and his exit is certain.
“The way BJD has adopted violence in the last 10-15 days and a handful of his officers have remained blindfolded, I want to tell him that Naveen Babu, your time is up now. No one can save you now, not even a handful of officers. People of Odisha are in a mood to bid you adieu with anger,” Modi had asserted.
Bhubaneswar,24/04/19:Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Patkura MLA candidate sees conspiracy theory behind the nomination of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Bed Prakash Agrawalla who passed away recently necessitating fresh poll.
“It is a welcome move by the Election Commission of India that it took a decision to conduct polls early. It is a conspiracy of BJD to field Bed Prakash Agrawalla from Patkura as he was unfit to even collect his party ticket from Naveen Niwas,” the veteran politician stated.
The firebrand leader further said that conspiracy was even hatched to push the polls.
“It will be a fight against conspiracy. The entire state will set eyes on Patkura elections on May 19 as polls for 146 assembly constituencies would have been over by then,” he added.
The four-time MLA is out of the power corridors since last 19 years. He was last elected to the state assembly on a Janata Dal ticket in 1995. A close aide of Biju Patnaik, Mohapatra was one of the founding members of the Biju Janata Dal. However, he was denied a ticket in a dramatic way just before the 2000 polls. Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak was fielded from Patkura in place of Mohapatra. The former Cabinet minister had registered four straight wins in the assembly polls. Later, he was expelled from the BJD.
The 70-year-old has since been unsuccessfully trying to enter the state assembly. He contested elections in 2004 on an Odisha Gana Parishad ticket, the party he founded in 2001. In the subsequent elections in 2009 and 2014, he contested from Patkura and Mahakalpada segments without much success.
The politically sensitive Patkura seat comprises 26 gram panchayats from Derabish block, 18 from Garadpur block besides seven from Marshaghai block..
