Inauguration of Regional Training centre for Certificate Course on Diabetes at Berhampur




Berhampur,( 28th May 2017):Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) has inaugurated a regional training centre for Certificate Course in Evidence Based Diabetes Management (CCEBDM) at Berhampur. Dr Sunil Kumar Kota, Consultant Endocrinologist from Diabetes & Endocare Clinic, Berhampur has been designated by PHFI as the regional faculty. In a brief inaugural ceremony organised today at Roland Institute of Pharamaceutical Sciences, Ambapua, Dr Ramesh Chandra Chyaupatnaik, Chairman, Ganjam District Planning Committee and Hon’ble MLA, Berhampur was the chief guest with Prof Dr Rajendra Prasda Das, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Berhampur University, Prof Dr N C Padhi, Ex Head of the Dept of General Surgery, MKCG Medical College, Berhampur as the guests of honour. Dr R Ch Chyaupatnaik expressed concerns about the raising trend of Diabetes in the society and called upon various sectors to increase awareness among common people. Dr Rajendra Prasad Das praised the combined efforts of Dr Sunil Kumar Kota and PHFI in training doctors from various departments on management of common non communicable diseases including Diabetes, thyroid disorders. Prof Dr N C Padhi stressed upon the importance of training primary care physicians from various streams regarding Diabetes management for better patient care in scientific manner. Sri Subash Maharana requested more such agencies to come up with innovative ideas to tackle this ever growing menace of Diabetes. National Course Director from PHFI Dr Sandeep Bhalla, revealed that the course started in the year 2010. This year it is the 5th cycle with130 centres across India and Berhampur being the nominated as the one among 4 regional training centres in Odisha. He later released the national report on this particular course. Finally Dr Sunil Kumar Kota stressed upon the importance of scientific and evidence based treatment of Diabetes. He intimated to the audience that this year 18 doctors from various places of south Odisha have enrolled for the course. A brief convocation session was held at the end, where the guests provided certificates on Diabetes to the 12 participants, who were trained year by Dr Sunil for Gestational Diabetes course under the auspices of PHFI.


PHFI has exuded confidence that Dr Sunil Kota’s expertise would be used to train more doctors from South Odisha on Diabetes, Thyroid disorders and other chronic non communicable diseases. Dr J Surya Rao, Chairperson, Mrs J Jayalakshmi, Director and Dr M E Bhanoji Rao, Principal, Roland institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Sri Lalatendu Sahu, Tahasildar, Kanisi were among the other guests who wished the program a grand success.
