Berhampur University organizes workshop on Diabetes

Berhampur dated 28th March 2016: Internal Quality assurance cell (IQAC), National service scheme (NSS) and Students Union of Berhampur University in association with Diabetes & Endocare Clinic, today have organized a workshop on Diabetes at Biju Patnaik Auditorium. Mr Ashish Singh, IPS, SP, Berhampur inaugurated the blood sugar testing campaign for teaching and non teaching staff cum students of Bhanja Bihar. It was later on followed by an interactive session on Diabetes. Vice chancellor Prof Dr Deepak Behera presided over the meet, where Berhampur based young Endocrinologist, Diabetes Superspecialist Dr Sunil Kumar Kota from Diabetes and Endocare Clinic, participated as the chief guest cum resource person.  Dr Sunil explained to the audience about causes, prevention and treatment of diabetes.

 

Now 70 milion Indian people are suffering from Diabetes. Physical cum mental stress of today’s life puts everyone at more risk of developing lifestyle related disorders. Therefore Dr Sunil called upon the audience to undergo annual testing for blood sugars, cholesterol and blood pressure starting from 40 years of age.  Apart from proper diet control, regular exercise and lifestyle changes, diabetic patients should take medicines regularly and do periodic testing as per the doctor’s advice. Timely treatment and periodic follow up with doctor prevents the complications. Later on the students and the staff engaged Dr Sunil in an interactive question and answer session on various health related queries. An educational material on Diabetes and Thyroid disorders was later on provided to each of the 500 odd participants. 

 

Prof Dr Prasanta Padhy, chairman, PG council, Prof DR Prasanna Swain from NSS, Prof Dr Pratap Mohanty from IQAC, and Mr Rakesh Shadangi, president students union too graced the occasion. Praising his efforts for creating awareness of Endocrine disorders among people from various sections of the society, vice chancellor Dr Deepak Behera requested Dr Sunil Kota to continue these efforts for others as well.
