Naveen Patnaik visits Utkal University Joined Students Union Meeting

Bhubaneswar,(28/04/2017): While Chief Minister Naveen Patnik arrived at Utkal University today evening and attended the Students’ Union meeting, around 50 persons, including a majority of Student Congress members were detained by the Commissionerate police for trying to creating disturbance during the visit.

Just a hours before the visit of the Chief Minister to Vani Vihar, hundreds of Student’s Congress activists tried to take part in a bike rally passing through the varsity. As police tried to prevent them they indulged in a scuffle with cops. Later on police detained around 50 of them as a preventive measure before CM’s visit.

On the other hand the Utkal University turned into a fortress following Naveen’s visit with enough police forces pressed into duty inside the campus. While Section 144 has been clamped on the roads passing through the campus and public movement has been restricted along it. In addition Odisha Police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) jawans have been deployed on the spot to maintain law and order.

Notably, the varsity students’ union has submitted a 14 point charter of demand to the Chief Minister over various issues and requirements pertaining to the campus.
