Report;Manoj Kant Dash,Odishabarta

Berhampur,13/02/18: In a major jolt to the Mayor of Berhamapur Municipal Corporation, K Madhavi, a local court disqualified her as corporator of the civic body on charges of furnishing false information in her affidavit during election.

The disqualification was pronounced by the Ganjam District and Sessions Court in response to a petition filed by former Mayor Siba Shankar Dash.

A local court Tuesday declared even the corporator membership of Mayor K Madhavi of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) as null and void and overturned her Mayor post.

The order is related into two separate cases filed by former Berhampur Municipal Corporation Mayor Siba Shankar Dash.

Dash had alleged that Madhavi filed a false affidavit while contesting the elections for BMC. She not only has two husbands, but also does not know how to read and write in Oriya.

In this context, the district and sessions judge Malaya Ranjan Dash Tuesday passed the order in the first case, while adjudicating the case.

According to the case diary, Madhavi contested the Berhampur Municipal Corporation election as a BJD candidate and became the first woman Mayor of the corporation from ward No. 16 in 2013.

However, the first Mayor of BMC, Siba Shankar Das filed a petition in the court of the district and sessions judge in 2014 alleging that Madhavi has two husbands and does not know to read and write in Oriya.

Dash’ lawyer Jagat Mohan Pattanik said Madhavi married for the second time without going for a legal separation from her first husband. The district and sessions judge, who is also the Commissioner of Election Disputes, declared Madhavi’s election affidavit false following which she was disqualified from the corporation and lost the Mayor’s post.

Dash had also moved the Orissa High Court seeking early disposal of the case. Consequently, the HC had directed the lower court to pronounce the judgment within 45 days.

Madhavi’s first husband K Lakshman Kumar and present husband Venkatesh and three other witnesses were also examined by the court in this process, the lawyer added.
