Report;Bureau,Odishabarta

Bhubaneswar,01/01/18: In a development, three mining lessees in Odisha today stopped production after the State Government issued notices to seven of them to halt their operations after failing to deposit the mining compensation by December 31 deadline.

The development came after the Supreme Court slapped per cent penalty on at least 46 mines operating in the state on August 2 for flouting environmental guidelines, mining outside lease/permitted area and for encroachment beyond the mining area.

According to official sources, three mining companies those have been asked to stop operation with effect from January 1 are Co, Mesco and Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

Notably, Serajuddin and Company holds an iron-ore mining block at Balda, Mesco and IDC are operating two separate mines in Keonjhar district.

The other defaulter lessees will be asked to stop mining subsequently, sources say.
