Crime on the rise in twin city

Bhubaneswar,06/04/18: Despite a number of initiatives taken by the Commissionerate Police, the crime rate has showed an upward trend in comparison to previous years in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar pointing to the worsening of law and order situation in the twin cities.

The minor rape cases have gone up by 4.3 % in a year, police commissioner YB Khurania said.

Cuttack and Bhubaneswar had witnessed 127 rape cases in 2015 while it went up to 144 in 2016. The matter of concern is that most of the cases are related to minor rape cases. Out of 144 rape cases 68 were adults while 76 were minor girls.

Similarly, the minor rape cases have gone up by 4.3 percent in 2017 against previous year.

Rape cases have increased in Bhubaneswar but decreased in Cuttack in 2017, a statement issued by the Commissionerate Police said. Out of total 181 cases registered in 2017, 110 cases are due to elopement and love affairs.

There is a marginal increase in motor vehicle accidents in Bhubaneswar. But such cases have decreased in Cuttack in 2017.

Dacoity cases recorded a downfall in the Capital city  this year in comparison to 2016. Similarly, Cuttack registered more such cases in 2017 than 2016. Police have intercepted 13 and nine dacoity gangs in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack respectively in 2017.

A total of 11,238 cases have been registered in 2017 under twin city Commissionerate Police jurisdiction, the statement informed.
